I really enjoyed this podcast. In fact, this is the kind of information I was expecting at the Thursday CLSC lecture by Barton. I was disappointed when she only read from her book. I enjoyed reading her novel and wanted to know more about why and how she came to write it and what kind of research she did. The podcast gave me a bit of that information. Jeff Miller may want to consider using this format for some of the speakers at the Thursday lectures in 2008. That way, the author doesn't have to prepare a talk and the result is far more interesting than having the author simply read from his/her book.
Emily Barton is one of the most edrudite and eloquent American authors of her generation. Thanks to the CLSC for archiving this fine interview.
What a very in depth interview of Emily Barton. I think Jeff touched on all the important points of the book as well as asking some out of the box questions that challenged Barton (in a nice way) about why and how she wrote this book. Nice to hear an interview that didn't ask cookie cutter questions of the author.
