As the top administrator of a large university, priorities are important for Dr. Andrew Sorensen. In the week on “Sport in America,” The Rev. Dr. Joan Brown Campbell discusses how, as president of the University of South Carolina, he put those priorities into practice regarding the potentially competing interests of sports and academics. Sorensen discusses the trajectory that brought him to the position of university president, his views on the necessity of leadership, and the close relationship he built with the student body at USC – a place where students wore t-shirts with his picture and the saying “Andy is my homeboy.”
